Architectural glass shader pack (Blender Cycles + EEVEE)
For projects related to architecture or that must handle interior visualization, you will probably have to add a glass material to windows to enhance realism. The Glass BSDF shader from Blender is fantastic, but it has a significant flaw for architectural lighting. It doesn't let light pass through it!
Once you apply the Glass BSDF to window glass, it blocks all exterior light.
Architectural glass shader - Clear glass
To solve this problem, you can get the custom Architectural Glass for Blender Cycles 2.9x with a Node Setup that makes the material behave like real glass. It has all the properties of a glass material:
- Reflections
- Transparency
As a bonus, it lets light go through! It will be a significant help in interior design renders where you must get all the exterior light (Sun+Environment) to your scene's interior.
Architectural glass shader - Frosted glass
Another common type of glass material present in architectural visualization projects is the frosted glass. Making that type of glass might also be a challenge with the default shaders from Blender. We have in this pack a custom frosted glass material that can help in architectural projects.
The glass shader ensures a great level of transparency and blur control to make the glass more or less transparent.
Frosted glass - Type 2
The first version of our frosted glass shader shows limited visibility in some scenes, and for that reason, we present a variation of the shader. Meet the Frosted Glass - Type 2 that has much better visibility in some projects.
Here is a quick demo with the differences.
You can download the custom shader with the new Type 2 variation, and also the included example scene.
What do you get with the shader pack?
After downloading the custom architectural glass shader pack, you get a ".blend" file with all materials. It works as a source for you to Append to other projects. As a bonus, you get an example scene where you can render some tests with the shaders and instructions on how to use the Append to pull materials to a new project.
Here is a summary of what you get with this shader package:
- Blender file with the custom architectural glass - clear glass
- Blender file with the custom architectural glass - clear glass (EEEVE)
- Blender file with the custom architectural glass - frosted glass
- Blender file with the custom architectural glass - frosted glass (Type 2)
- Example scenes to compare our shader with the Glass BSDF
- Instructions on how to use the shader
